Mi7 was conceived as a producer collective and label in 2005 for early 360º joint venture contracts with artists and producers as a development hub with a strong focus on using data to help fanbase growth. The label has been the platform and zone of gestation for the likes of King Charles, Dan Smith (Bastille), We Were Evergreen and latterly Trampolene and Feverist
A big success for Mi7 came in early 2008 when the company partnered with Greenpeace to create the Greenpeace Field at the Glastonbury Festival. James had done artist liaison work for Greenpeace already, and Mi7 had worked on projects for some of the organization’s campaigns. When Greenpeace decided to combine music and activism at Glastonbury, Mi7 was the perfect musical partner for the project. Mi7 brought in its artists from the London folk scene, emerging artists who shared a desire to use their music to aid social change, and their grass-roots ethos fit in perfectly with Greenpeace’s message. The first Greenpeace Field show featured world-famous acts including Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling and was a rousing success. In 2014, Mi7 partnered with Greenpeace to produce the show once again. This time it was bigger and better, with a farmers’ market, a skate ramp, and even a giant polar bear!
Established partnerships with UMG Republic Records, Island Records and Rondor Publishing have supported many creative paths for a roster that’s currently expanding for a collection of exciting releases for the turn of the year; including Jack Francis’s debut soon to be recorded live at Abbey Road studios and James Baxter’s EP of sinister pop melancholy.
We seek to support and develop artists with the belief that time and nourishment – rare but essential commodities in the current climate – brings a greater likelihood of a sustainable career path. Created by musicians for musicians, we look to ability and vision, not finished product.
